November is a time where we often intentionally focus on gratitude and thankfulness. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, the New Year isn’t far behind, and we start focusing on friends and family and all we have been blessed with. One of the best ways to cultivate an attitude of gratitude is with a gratitude challenge.

Journaling
A popular November gratitude challenge involves journaling for 30 days and recording something you are grateful for each day. This is a great idea, but sometimes we find ourselves stuck in a rut midway through the month. Either we get lost in the hustle and bustle of the Holidays that are quickly approaching or we just can’t seem to put a name to all of the things we are thankful for.
The November Gratitude Challenge gives you 30 days of gratitude prompts to help you be intentional with your attitude of gratitude. It’s easy to follow, and I think you’ll find that it will transform your way of thinking by the end of the month!

Here are a few of my favorite journals. They all have plenty of room to journal the things you are thankful for daily, positive affirmations, and all of the little moments from the day that you don’t want to forget!
establishing an attitude of gratitude that lasts
We’ve been told that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. (I don’t really know who said this, but it’s something I’ve always heard, so it must be true!) Stick with my November Gratitude Challenge and I bet you’ll find that at the end of November, your mind will automatically focus on the positive and look for things to be thankful for on a daily basis.
After you’ve established an attitude of gratitude, here are some of my favorite gratitude journals to help me remain grateful throughout the year.
30 Days to an attitude of gratitude
- List 5 things you are grateful for. Re-visit this list daily.
- Start a habit of bedtime journaling. Every night, recount 3 things you are thankful for from the day.
- Who has had the biggest influence in your life? Write them a thank-you note.
- Commit to device-free dinners.
- Clean out your closet and donate unused items to a local shelter or non-profit.
- Wake up before the hustle and bustle of the day and reflect on God’s beauty. I love to drink my coffee and watch the sun rise. (Before kids, I NEVER would have said this! I was rarely up before the sun unless I had to go to work!)
- Write down 3 of your favorite qualities.
- Record 3 of your spouse’s qualities that you are thankful for.
- Pay it forward. Pay for someone else’s coffee or tea.
- Call your Mom.
- Bake cookies for someone special.
- Send out 3 cards to let someone know that you’re thinking of them.
- Compliment someone you don’t know.
- Let go of any hard feelings you are holding onto. Forgive those who may not deserve it.
- Tell your kids what qualities you love about them.
- List 3 goals you’ve accomplished.
- Write down your proudest moment.
- Thank your spouse for something little that they did today.
- Say you’re sorry when you mess up.
- Pray for your children, your spouse, and someone you’ve been thinking about recently.
- Write down something beautiful you saw today.
- Turn on your favorite music and dance your heart out.
- Go an entire day without social media.
- Call a dear friend and catch up. Better yet, go out for coffee or wine!
- Take an hour, an afternoon or even a day for yourself. Do what you love!
- Commit to a no-complaining attitude. Watch this change your life!
- Put dinner in the crock pot, and spend the extra time in the evening playing with your kids.
- Make time for a date with your spouse, even if it’s just watching a movie and eating cookies after the kids go to bed.
- Write down what you love about your job.
- Have everyone say what they are thankful for before dinner.
I hope these gratitude prompts will help you to cultivate an attitude of gratitude all year long! I find that when I focus on the positive in life and the things I’m grateful for, I’m just happier in general!

I like all of these gratitude prompts, especially #13, complimenting someone you don’t know! Such a small thing can truly make someone’s day!
Shannah says
I always start a gratitude challenge and like you said get caught up in all the hustle and seem to just stop. Maybe putting it right before bed with my journal on the bedside table will help me remember thanks for the great prompts!

I LOVE this list!! It’s so easy to go through life not realizing all we have to be thankful for. Instead of a journal, I use my Day planner which I guess is still the act of writing things down. I need to go and write down my proudest moment right now! Because it sure is easy to focus on all that I’m not proud of or feel inadequate about!

It is easy for me to focus on my inadequacies too, and then when I stop and really think, it’s like…why?? I’m so quick to tell another mama she’s doing a great job, and I need to tell myself the same thing more often than I remind myself of where I’m failing.
I’m so glad you love the list and I hope it helps shift your focus 💗

These are great ideas! I find myself getting grumpy in the winter months… so this is a good reminder to have a different mindset!
